2018 Socio-Economic Survey To Enhance The Data Quality

March 28, 2018 | BPS Activities

The Socio-Economic Survey conducted by BPS is one of the surveys conducted to obtain some macro data that captures the development of social and economic statistics that occur from national to district level. Some of the indicators that can be generated from Susenas are poverty line, poverty depth, food and non food expenditure figures, human development index indicator or HDI. In the field of education, there is a Rough Participation Rate and Pure Participation Rate. Most of the 17 objectives contained in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or UN Sustainable Development by the UN are also measured from the Susenas processing data. For example, poverty alleviation, without hunger, decent living, education, and other goals can be captured with Susenas data.

Given the importance of Susenas data, BPS makes the best effort to produce better quality data in capturing the true state of affairs by training the officers by being taught by local instructors trained by national instructors. This is to strengthen the officers in the mastery of the concepts and definitions that exist in the questionnaire and interview techniques. BPS also performs data processing using technological assistance with due attention to the consistency and reasonableness of existing data through editing coding, as well as validation and other statistical techniques to produce higher quality data. In addition, during the direct enumeration by the officer to the respondent, supervision is also done to ensure that the field enumeration is done well and correctly by the officer.
